Dig hole 2 to 3 times wider than the plant

Dig shallow, as deep as the root ball
Encourages wide spread growth
Cover any exposed root ball with mulch

Don't dig hole deeper than root ball

Don't put loose dirt under root ball

Plant will settle covering up the crown

Backfill with unamended soil

Backfill half way then water

Settles dirt
Then finish filling hole

Incorporate slow release fertilizers in backfill soil

Provides nitrogen needed for root growth
